Thanksgiving Toronto - Thanksgiving Harbour Cruises

In Canada we celebrate Thanksgiving on the second Monday of October. But, it hasn’t always been so. Prior to 1879 when Thanksgiving was declared a national holiday it did not have a fixed date. It fluctuated from late October to early November. In 1879 the official date of Thanksgiving was declared to be November 6th. However that created conflict because Thanksgiving and Remembrance Day frequently fell on the same week. That all changed on January 31, 1957 when the Canadian Parliament declared the second Monday in October Thanksgiving Day. And, so it has remained ever since.

There are many legends and lore about Thanksgiving.  We’ve all heard about the pilgrims who arrived in the new world aboard The Mayflower. That story is an American legend that has nothing what so ever to do with Thanksgiving in Canada. There is also a lot of misinformation about why Canada and the United States celebrate Thanksgiving at different times. Although there is no definitive answer the most logical reason is that Canada is geographically further north than the United States, therefore the Canadian harvest season is earlier than the American harvest season. In the U.S. they celebrate the arrival of the pilgrims on Thanksgiving, while here in Canada we celebrate Thanksgiving to give thanks for the harvest.

This Thanksgiving celebrate the harvest with friends and family aboard the Escape T.O., a beautiful yacht available for private charter Thanksgiving cruises for groups of up to 100 guests. Our charter rates are astonishingly low, but our service is first class. We offer a variety of all-inclusive Thanksgiving cruises packages for all tastes and budgets. Our award chefs can prepare a traditional Canadian Thanksgiving Day feast – a big roasted and stuffed turkey, mashed potatoes, roasted root vegetables, candied yams, cranberry sauce, and pumpkin pie for dessert – or any menu selections that you prefer.

Contact us today and reserve the Escape T.O. for your Thanksgiving celebration.
